The Five-Star Weekend

19

Eleven years have passed since the split. Time changes things.

Jennifer Garner was chatting with Entertainment Weekly on July 16. She had news about her ex-husband, Ben Affleck. Good news, surprisingly. Or maybe just the kind that matters when you share kids. She called him an incredible co-parent. That praise? It bought her freedom. Specifically, the chance to star in The Five Star Weekend.

She almost said no.

“I really only work in L.A.” That’s her line. Three teenagers. Can’t vanish for four months. “It’s just not worth it.” Producers listened. They moved the shoot. Most of it in L.A. One month in Nantucket. Now the schedule fit.

Why?

“They can stay with their dad.” Simple. He handles it. “He’s a great partner.” That freedom? It’s real.

The Shift

They married in 2005. Separated in 2015. Divorced in 2018? Check. Their kids—Violet, Seraphina, and Samuel—are now 20, 17, and 13 respectively. Things look different than they did back when she prioritized the kids over her career.

“It’s a season.” That’s how she sees it. She wouldn’t trade it. But. The kids are bigger now. Her husband, well, ex -husband, has stepped up. He’s incredible at the job.

And I wouldn’t trade a minute… But I feel like my kids are… a little bigger.

Sound familiar?

Last October, Affleck told Access Hollywood he felt the same. He was proud of Violet after her UN testimony on mask bans. “Spectacular.” He said it was a joy.

“We got great kids.”

It works. Sort of.
